New Toys

yesterday was payday.

I arrived to work to find a bit of a present. It's my week to be on-call. So that means I have to carry a pager, extra cell phone, laptop, binder, and a big laptop bag to carry it all in. I could go to Des Moines this weekend, but since it's the first time I've had the pager, I decided going 2 hours away might not be a great idea. Well, also today was friday so it was doughnut day. Oh! also also, there was a pot luck, so I pigged out.

Also, it gives me a chance to unpack, clean, and play with my new toys.

New Toys?

Yeah. I grabbed World of Warcraft and a new optical mouse on my lunch break. I wasn't hungry because of the snacking earlier, in fact I went to lunch at 1:15. We got out of work at about 3:15 due to the holiday and lack of ability to do any work because everyone left early anyhow.

I stopped into the Sprint Store down the street and picked up an expensive toy; the Sprint PPC-6700. I talked to the sales-person about getting the $150 new account discount even though I am an existing customer. He added a second line to my account which qualifies me for the $150 discount. Then he waived the activation fee, and also put in a credit equal to the cost of my first account's bill for the next couple months, until I can cancel the account without the early termination fee. So I did get the discount. Cool. Still pretty goddamned expensive.

I can ssh into my servers from my cell phone. From my cell phone.
